Bulacan and Laguna private pools are an hour away from Manila. Well, sort of. That is if you’re going to traverse in a light traffic. Which, by the way, happens only every New Year’s Day. And if you’re that lucky, you’ll get there in three tiring hours.

Why stress yourself in traffic if you can get a nice private pool here in Metro Manila? Yes, there are good private pools here in the Metro but you need to search hard for it. Ask couple of friends, read print ads, or search it on your favorite search engine.

Why the post? Well, this is a shameless plug. Back in the 90′s, our family used to run a private pool here in Novaliches, Quezon City. We’re the first here, actually. Back in the day, no one asks for slides, for karaoke, for air-conditioned rooms. People only asks for the pool and the water in it. That simple.

Years passed and all of my siblings including me went to school. With that, my parents had less time to manage the pool business so they haven’t had the chance to maintain and upgrade until they decided to stop running it.

Now that all of us are graduates already, we’re going to run our private pool business again and this time we plan to take it to the next level.

Mapua students killed in brawl

Two students of the Mapua Institute of Technology were killed after they were attacked by a group of unidentified men in Intramuros, Manila, on Saturday night.Jose Marie Villareal, 19, of Pasay City, died as he was being treated at the Seaman Hospital while Raymund Gino, 21, of Taguig City, was declared dead on arrival at the Ospital ng Maynila.

Both died from multiple stab wounds.

Police Officer 2 Alfredo Mabutol Jr. of the Manila Police District homicide division said the incident happened at around 9:30 p.m. at the corner of Urdaneta and Gen. Luna Streets in Intramuros.

One of the victims’ companions, Romeo de la Cruz, said they were on their way home after a drinking spree in a restaurant on Magallanes Street when they met a group of men, also MIT students.

The members of the group suddenly attacked them, De la Cruz said, adding that one man suddenly took out a knife and stabbed the two victims before fleeing.

Investigators said that the killing was probably a fraternity-related incident as the victims and their attackers were members of two different fraternity groups.

The two groups, however, were not at odds with each other, the police added.
