San Beda Red Lions sweeps the NCAA Basketball championships

After an 85-70 physical game between last year’s champion San Sebastian Stags, San Beda reclaimed the NCAA Basketball championship in a big way. With a record of 18-0, the red lions finished its historic season, finishing all their assignments without a loss.

In the Juinors Division, the San Beda Red Cubs secured their second straight juniors title following a 95-84 victory over San Sebastian Staglets in their own Finals match.

Both games were played at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Ateneo de Manila extended its reign in the UAAP juniors’ basketball tournament Sunday at the Big Dome after outscoring UST in their finals game three.

It was Ateneo’s 18th UAAP juniors’ title overall and the Blue Eaglets’ eighth under coach Jamike Jarin.

The Annual Rookie Draft of PBA is set on Aug. 29 at the Market! Market! Place in Taguig City. The date and place is set, the question now is, who will be the top overall pick?

Air21 has the top three picks and they most likely spend it on big men. From the list of draftees, the 6-foot-7 Rabeh Al-Hussaini is favored by Air21 coach to be his team’s top pick.

“Al-Hussaini is definitely our choice for No.1, but we’re also seriously considering Baclao because he’s a defensive player and sometimes willing to become a role player. He’s also a tough frontliner. His qualities fit our need,” said Guiao in a telephone interview.

Other notable PBA aspirants are NCAA MVP John Wilson, Nonoy Baclao, Ford Arao, Jai Reyes, slam dunk king Elmer Espiritu, Jimbo Aquino, Marvin Hayes, Khazim Mirza, Rey Guevarra and RJ Jazul.

Cardinals suffer a second straight lose

Playing it’s first game in the second round of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship, the Mapua Cardinals was outscored by the Arellano Chiefs. Mapua Institute of Technology finished with 72 points against Arellano’s 76 points at The Arena, San Juan.

Although I am a Mapuan, I am not in favor for bad behavior.
